Meet Khusbu

We’re thrilled to celebrate Khusbu Ale’s well-deserved promotion to Assistant Food and Beverage Manager here at Mr. Good Guy Hobart! Khusbu is a familiar face to our team, having joined us over a year ago and quickly making her mark. We sat down with her to chat about her journey into hospitality, her love of tropical cocktails, the Mr. Good Guy dishes she can’t get enough of, and why she’s counting down the days until her Japan trip.

Q: Congrats on the promotion to Assistant F&B Manager! Tell us about your career journey. How long have you been with Mr. Good Guy, and what roles or places led you here?
Thank you so much! I’ve been with Mr. Good Guy for just over a year now. I came on board as a Dinner Supervisor and have just been promoted to Assistant F&B Manager, it’s only been two weeks so it’s all still very exciting!

Before Mr. Good Guy, I built up a solid hospitality background. I worked at McDonald’s as a Duty Manager, which taught me a lot about running a fast-paced operation. From there I moved into bartending at Wrest Point, where I worked my way up to Shift Supervisor. The late nights eventually led me to apply here and the rest is history!

Q: The drinks list at Mr. Good Guy has a lot of Asian influences. What is your favourite tipple on the drinks list and what dish would you enjoy it with?
I love all the cocktails. it’s genuinely hard to pick a favourite! The Lychee Martini is up there for me, and so is the Isola because of that gorgeous mango flavour. I tend to lean towards sweet, tropical drinks. I’m also a big fan of the classic Piña Colada. You can never go wrong with a tropical classic.

Q: What is your favourite dish on the Mr. Good Guy menu and why?
Everything except the curries. I’m Nepalese so we eat a lot of curry at home, which means I tend to skip it when I’m dining out!

The Vietnamese Pork Belly is absolutely delicious, and the Grilled Chicken Ribs are incredible, especially paired with a Lychee Martini. That combination is seriously good. I’m also a big fan of the Satay, which happens to be one of our best sellers, and the Pad Thai. I always ask for extra spices and veggies when the kitchen isn’t too slammed!

Q: When you’re off work and looking for a great feed, what are your favourite foodie hot spots in Hobart?
I have so many! Maldini does really beautiful pasta, and I love The Point Revolving Restaurant because their burrata is something I genuinely crave. If I haven’t been in six months, I start to feel it!

I also love Asian cuisine, particularly Korean food. Tasty Korea and Mr. Korea are both go-to spots for me. And for Chinese, my partner and I love Yummy Inn City. Their Szechuan crispy deep-fried chicken with chilli is amazing, and they do this incredible whole fish that you just have to try.

Q: Where would you love to travel next to try the food?
I’m actually heading to Japan next month and I cannot wait. I’m a huge matcha fan so I’m especially excited to try it in its home country. After that, Korea would be the dream. Korean BBQ, tteokbokki, all of it.
