Meet Nevilyn
Today we caught up with our F&B Supervisor at Mr. Good Guy, Nevilyn, who has been with Mr. Good Guy since July 2023. We’ll explore the motivations of her passion for Food and Beverage!
Q: Where were you born, Nev?
I was born and raised in a small province in the northern Philippines, which has a climate similar to Tassie.
Q: When did you move to Australia, and what motivated you to make this move?
I moved to Australia with a friend 5 years ago with the goal of gaining high-quality education and career opportunities in this country. Additionally, I was motivated by the opportunity to explore and experience the cultural diversity that Australia offers.
Q: How long have you been in the F&B supervisor role? Tell us about your career background, any career highlights or countries you have worked prior to Mr. Good Guy.
Before coming to Australia, I worked in a different industry outside of hospitality. My journey in hospitality began when I arrived here, taking on roles as a waiter and cashier. I quickly discovered the perks of the industry, such as the flexibility to maintain a positive work-life balance, the opportunity to become more proactive, and the chance to gain diverse experiences. This inspired me to pursue a career in hospitality.
Before joining Mr. Good Guy, I worked as a supervisor at a sushi shop in Hobart for over a year. Looking to further my career in hospitality, I joined Mr. Good Guy as a Food and Beverage attendant in July 2023. I was promoted into the supervisor role in January 2024.
Q: The drinks list at Mr. Good Guy has a lot of Asian influences. What is your favourite tipple on the drinks list and what dish would you enjoy it with?
My favourite is the Vietnamese Espresso Martini. For those who enjoy coffee, this cocktail is a delightful way to get your caffeine fix with the added sweetness of condensed milk, making it even more delicious. I also love Baileys on ice. I would pair either drink with any dish on Mr. Good Guy menu or enjoy them on their own.
Q: What is your favourite dish on the Mr. Good Guy menu and why?
I love the Vietnamese noodle salad topped with grilled chicken because it combines simple yet healthy ingredients. I also enjoy the Vietnamese pork belly served with lots of steamed rice. Yum!
Q: When you’re off work and looking for a great feed, what are your favourite foodie hot spots in Hobart?
I love street food, especially when Street Eats @ Franko is open. I enjoy going there to eat and listen to live music with friends. On my days off, you might also find me at a café or local bakery, enjoying coffee and a delicious cheesecake.
Q: Where would you love to travel next to try the food?
I’m looking forward to traveling around Southeast and East Asia, starting with Thailand and Taiwan, to try their famous street foods. I also want to visit Italy to experience their cuisine. Can’t wait!
