Meet Phoebe
Meet Phoebe Rai — our amazing Food & Beverage Supervisor at Mr. Good Guy Devonport! Originally from Nepal, Phoebe brings 8 years of Hospitality experience (and a big smile!) to the team. From her go-to cocktail and fave dish on the menu to her foodie travel bucket list, get to know the heart behind the Hospitality…
Q: Where were you born or where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Nepal.
Q: When did you move to Australia, and what motivated the move?
I moved to Australia when I was 18 to pursue further studies. I was motivated by a desire to become more independent and to explore different cultures.
Q: How long have you been in the Food & Beverage Supervisor role? Tell us a bit about your career journey and highlights.
I studied Hospitality in high school and started my first internship at Hyatt Regency Kathmandu when I was 17 — so I’ve been in the industry for around 8 years. After moving to Australia, it was easy to find jobs in the field thanks to my background. I’ve worked across different states before moving to Devonport, including Sydney and Perth. A career highlight was being named Employee of the Year while working at DoubleTree by Hilton in Western Australia.
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in Food & Beverage?
My studies definitely helped guide me into this career, but it’s my passion for making people happy that keeps me going. Small touches and genuine care can really elevate a guest’s experience.
Q: The drinks list at Mr. Good Guy has a lot of Asian influences. What is your favourite tipple on the drinks list and what dish would you enjoy it with?
I love Singapore Sling — the combination of gin and cherry brandy is just perfect. I’d pair it with our Chicken Bao.
Q: Favourite dish on the menu?
Thit Heo Nuong Xả — I love pork in general, but the lemongrass-marinated pork ribs with slaw and tangy pickles really remind me of flavours from back home.

Q: Where do you like to eat and hang out in Devonport?
Frankie J’s is my go-to on my days off — great atmosphere and delicious pizza!
Q: Where’s next on your foodie travel list?
Japan or Korea — I’d love to explore both of their incredible food scenes!
